Tayas Yawks Greenhouse Project
Restoring Native Plants & First Foods
About the Project
With the support of Catena Grant funding, Tayas Yawks launched a greenhouse initiative to
provide restoration plants and first food plants for our region. Our mission is to restore native
plant ecosystems while ensuring the availability of culturally significant plants for local
communities.
Our First Year
Like any new endeavor, our first year brought challenges as we learned the best methods to
cultivate and care for native plants. Despite the learning curve, we reached a major milestone
in October 2024, successfully selling our first batch of restoration plants for local projects.
Learning & Networking
We’ve built connections and expanded our knowledge by collaborating with:
-
OHSU Extension – Learning from experts in sustainable growing techniques.
-
BFI Seeds in Washington – A trip that deepened our understanding of native plantï‚·
propagation and seed collection.
Looking Ahead: 2025 & Beyond
We are committed to seed harvesting from local native plants to be grown in 2025, ensuring
that our greenhouse continues to supply high-quality restoration plants for local projects.
Join us in our journey to restore native landscapes, promote biodiversity, and strengthen
cultural connections through plant cultivation.
